Untamed Kenya

Overview

You will start your safari by spending a day in Nairobi and exploring the city. We will then head to the Aberdares where you will spend time hiking on a pristine mountain range. Later, we will drive down to the foothills of Mt. Kenya and explore Ol Pejeta, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. This is also the only place in Kenya where you will see chimpanzees. We’ll travel north past the equator and visit Samburu where we will be searching for the “Special Five” animals in the Samburu Reserve. Your tour will end in the captivating Meru National Park. We will spend two days searching for the Big Five and enjoying the diverse wilderness and stunning landscapes.

Day 1:

Travel Day

Catch your flight to your safari starting point in Nairobi, Kenya

Days 2 & 3:

Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya

Welcome to Kenya, the start of your safari experience. Your Camili safari guide will pick you up from the international airport and transfer you to your hotel, Kwetu Nairobi, Curio Collection by Hilton.

On day 3, we will do an excursion of Nairobi city and visit The Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center, and Karura Forest. We will then head back to the hotel for some rest and relaxation.

Days 4 & 5:

Aberdares National Park

Forming a section of the Great Rift Valley with an elevation of up to 11,000 feet (3,350 meters), the Aberdare Range is an unmatched hiking destination in East Africa. We will leave Nairobi after breakfast and drive to Aberdares. The drive will take about three hours, arriving in time for lunch and some rest. In the evening we will do a short hike near camp followed by a longer hike the next morning up Dragon’s Teeth and Mt. Satima. Accommodation will be at Cedar Retreat.

Day 6:

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

After breakfast, we will drive further north towards Nanyuki town, arriving in Ol Pejeta in time for lunch and some rest. We will explore the park in the afternoon and have a chance to see rhinos. The next morning we will explore different parts of the park and visit the chimpanzee sanctuary before driving onwards to the Aberdares. Accommodation will be at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.

Day 7 & 8:

Samburu National Reserve

After an early breakfast, we will drive north towards Samburu. The drive will take two hours, and we will arrive in time for lunch. This journey will take us from the southern to the northern hemisphere, crossing the equator near Nanyuki town. Accommodation in Samburu will be at either Surana Buffalo Springs or Samburu Intrepids Camp. We will spend the next two days exploring the park with daily morning and evening game drives.

Days 9 & 10:

Meru National Park

On this day, we will check out after breakfast and drive to Meru National Park where we will spend our last two days of safari searching for the Big Five and experiencing this “true wilderness.” Visit Elsa’s Kopje, which is named after Elsa the lioness from Joy Adamson’s book Born Free.

Day 11:

Nairobi

After check-out, we will drive back to Nairobi and arrive in the evening. We will transfer you to the airport for your flight home.
